A Rare Swansea Glassy Porcelain plate decorated by William Billingsley. Examples of William Billingsleys work are scarce ,and often the attributions to his work are wrong ,especially his rose painting, this actual plate is illustrated in Swansea Porcelain by A E Jones & Sir Leslie Joseph on page 210 The use of green urns and gilt scroll work by William Billingsley has been well covered by David Phillips in his review No 2 on Swansea & Nantgarw porcelain , in it he states. " Most artistic people go through periods when they like to paint in a certain style or variations of the same subject. What I call Billingsleys Green urn period seemed to be his main theme in 1815" this plate is illustrated on page 11 illustration 19. In excellent condition with just minor wear to gilding Circa 1815 SOLD £ 850.00
