This very rare Tea cup and saucer is from a tea service of which only 7 tea cups survived, an example is shown in Swansea Porcelain shapes and decoration by A E Jones & Sir Leslie Joseph page 140 where he described it as, " Cabinet cup, urn shaped and waisted with a pronounced flared rim, and on a ridge moulded pedestal base. Scroll handle curved and closed with foliate moulding above the rim of the cup and with a serrated thumb spur, the base of the handle terminating with an embossed acanthus " This fine example of Swansea Porcelain shows a very rare shape I have not seen on any other service. Probably decorated by Henry Morris Unmarked but many pieces from this service as the pair of plates I have listed bear the Swansea mark in red There is a very fine hairline to the top rim of the cup as I have shown in the fourth photograph. the rich gilding is in excellent condition. Sold £ 950.00
